Around 50 persons from 24 existing and prospective cooperatives attended the event ‘Lil Hinn Mill-Bieb’ held at Koperattivi Malta in Qormi. The one day seminar included six workshops aimed at maximising cooperative communication. The event started with a welcome message by the Chairperson of the Malta National Committee IYC 2012, Mr Michael Mercieca
Mercieca spoke of the great efforts that are being done to convey the International Year of Cooperatives message through different traditional and new media. His welcome message was followed by a short speech by the Minister for Fair Competition, Small Business and Consumers Dr Jason Azzopardi who spoke about the contribution of the Maltese cooperatives to the country’s economy. He said that the Maltese Cooperative Movement generates an average annual turnover of around 70 million euros, creates jobs, are meets the needs of its members in a productive, self-sufficient and socially responsible manner. Dr Azzopardi said that today’s workshop are a consolidation of the cooperatives’ collective effort.
The workshops discussed different ways how a cooperative can promote its message, including by means of modern methods of communication, with the aim of leaving the desired impact on potential clients through a focused and effective approach. All participants were invited to choose three of the six sessions which discussed: Public Speaking; Advertising; Public Relations; Packaging your Product or Service; Marketing on the Internet and Social Media; and Using the Coop Label.
